LEICESTERSHIRE lies at the heart of the East Midlands and although mainly rural, has several concentrations of population such as the city of Leicester and market towns like Market Harborough, Melton Mowbray, Hinckley and,
 of course, Loughborough.

The M1 motorway bisects the county north to south and the mainline railway links London to the south and Newcastle to the north.

East Midlands Airport lies about 5 miles from Loughborough giving the region extremely good transport connections.

At a slower pace the Grand Union Canal passes through Loughborough as it wends it's way through the county.

The picture below shows a view of the rolling countryside in the north east of the county near Loughborough.

Old John is a landmark in the area, surrounded by a large area of public park-land known as Bradgate Park.

This part of the county is well endowed with extensive woodland open to the public.

North-west Leicestershire is in the borough of CHARNWOOD. To find out more about the area click on charnwood.gov.uk
