THE PEOPLE
|
|
People
We are a large church by the standards of Loughborough, with a membership in the region of
220. There are about 70 Sunday school children in addition to other friends who are also
included in our year-book making a total of over 350 people who call LBC their church.
The church is made up of a wide variety of people, amongst them young families but the
majority no longer young and mainly white, regretfully not entirely reflecting the
population profile of the Town. We consider ourselves fortunate in encompassing a range of
theological inclination, from the conservative to the radical, but all we hope,
evangelical.

WORSHIP
|
|
Worship
Worship is at the heart of church life and Sunday morning congregations include members
and friends, children, students and other visitors who regularly fill the two hundred
seats in the main body of the worship room. The evening service is less well attended and
we are actively exploring differing forms of worship which we hope will encourage more
people to join us.

LEADERSHIP
|
|
Leadership
The structure of the leadership follows the form of the Baptist Faith and Order in which
the Church Meeting of members is the authority for any action. This is typically attended
by about 40 members who debate and instigate various initiatives under the guidance of the
minister(s) of the church and 12 deacons, elected from the membership. It is the Church
Meeting which finally decides finances for example, including roughly £200 a week which
is given to the Baptist Missionary Society and the same amount to the Baptist Union work
in this country.
|
PREACHING
& TEACHING |
|
Preaching
Preaching and teaching are an important part of worship, mainly led by our full-time
ministers, but complemented in Bible Study sessions, House Groups, Discipleship Classes
and of course within the Sunday School.
|
MUSIC
& DRAMA
|
|
Music
Music forms an integral element of worship
and for the most part is provided by our organists who also accompany our traditional
choir who singat the evening service. Alternative forms of music are led by our Sunday
Singers and also by the Band. These different styles give an overall range of music suited
to most occasions.
Dance and Drama have their place within our worship and are often included in our
services, particularly on special occasions.
|
PASTORAL
CARE
|
|
Pastoral
The Pastoral care of the church and congregation is under the direction of pastoral group
leaders who each have about 20 or so members and friends with whom to keep in contact, and
liaise with the ministers.
|
OUTREACH
|
|
Outreach
We recognise the responsibility of each church member to take part in evangelism as an
integral part of their faith and personal friendships made by individual
members often lead to a commitment to Christ. Many members are active in a wide range
of voluntary organisations, quietly demonstrating Christ's care and compassion in the
wider world.
The church fellowship also sees its charge to use its premises to reach out and runs
youth organisations and Holiday Clubs as well as meetings for adults, including a carers
and toddlers group. A daily Lunch Break brings in the general public to the building.

THE VISION |
|
We have a vision of a broad, inclusive
church, firmly rooted in the 21st century, caring for its members and also those in its
sphere of influence, bringing support and encouragement to people of all ages and in
all conditions.
We want to extend our work in reaching children, young single people
and couples and to contact fathers as well as mothers.
We want to widen the scope, style and spirit of our worship,
recognizing that by these things we shall deepen our faith.
