Christians have long used images and symbols to
signify their beliefs
and as a means of communicating them. As Baptists we tend to have
fewer signs and symbols than some other churches, but those
we do have remind us of the main tenets of our faith.
Central to the beliefs of all Christians is the
Lordship of Jesus Christ.
His death and resurrection are symbolized by the cross which reminds us of our repentance
towards God and our faith in Christ. We bear witness to the Gospel of Jesus Christ and
seek to follow his teaching and example in every aspect of our lives.
We believe that our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ is the sole
and absolute authority in in all matters of faith, as revealed in the Bible, and that each
Church has the liberty, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit to interpret and administer
his laws.
As Christ himself was baptised, we follow him in
baptising believers by immersion in water into the name of the Father, Son and Holy
Spirit. The dove which descended on Jesus at his baptism reminds us of our own baptism and
the symbol of the flame tells us of the coming of the Holy Spirit to the disciples at
Pentecost.
We follow the command of Jesus to eat bread and drink wine,
together as a church, in memory of him.
We believe also in the priesthood of all believers and in the responsibility of all
believers to take part in the evangelisation of the world as Jesus commanded.
As Baptists we seek to root our lives in the revelation of God's truth.
